The dataset I’m working on today differentiates between E928.3 (unintentional human bite) and E968.7 (assault by human bite). I feel that this is an important distinction, and my hat off to whoever had coded these incidents as one or another. It takes a special person to look into a human bite and divine the true potential malice of the perpetrator.

Eliminate Marraige

I have no compunction, as someone who’s never been married, supporting the elimination of federal oversight of the institution. Why should our national government have an interest in regulating marriage? What does marriage have to do with interstate commerce or international tariffs and treaties? Maybe I’m missing something here, someone please explain it to me.

Cheney: Not your average despot

Comment of the day, from azathoth.

I wish Cheney would just embezzle a billion dollars and go away like your average despot. Making money by crashing the US into the ground is just inefficient.

humor gap

Chris Hitchens taking a break from warmongering to unfunnily explain why women aren’t funny.

Sleepy Keiko

Keiko’s landing at Logan as I write this – I’m about to head over to where her hotel is in Cambridge for some dinner or drinks. Very excited she’s coming, my old friends are the best. I don’t mean old like I’ve known her forever, I mean closer to retirement/death. It makes the time you do have more preciousss!

Rodent watch: 1 flat something, suffering from a degree of carnivoration.

First Snow Snuffathon

Blue Eye

Maija waits patiently all summer for the first snow of the year. Given global warming, this keeps getting pushed further back and back. This year, a jacket wasn’t necessary on December 1st. Finally though this morning, we have it – the first wet, slushy, puddling snow of the year. The the snow dogs rejoice.

Follow-up (2:30pm): It’s now brilliantly sunny out and a balmy 37 degrees. She’s going to be so disappointed when I get home.

Neo-futurists and their babies

Was in Chicago to see KU get hammered by the seriously underwhelming and obnoxiously-mascotted DePaul Blue Demons. The highlight of the trip was a late show of ‘Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind’ by the neo-futurists. This really was a lot of fun, recommended for the medium to well-done jaded individual.

Bin Laden & Asimov

Here is some plausible conspiracy theorism regarding the similarities of Al Qaeda and Isaac Asimov’s Foundation. This was published a couple of years ago but it’s the first I’ve heard of it so I feel compelled as always to further spread tempting misinformation…
