Baitullah Mehsud, a Taliban commander, has said that his terrorists will “welcome” me on my return. Everyone understands the meaning of these comments. And I fully understand the men behind Al Qaeda. They have tried to assassinate me twice before. The Pakistan Peoples Party and I represent everything they fear the most – moderation, democracy, equality for women, information, and technology. We represent the future of a modern Pakistan, a future that has no place in it for ignorance, intolerance, and terrorism. – Benazir Bhutto, Oct. 18th, 2007
Were that our own leaders even hoped to aim so high.
I know I’m running the risk of this blog devolving into yet lower circles of dog-dependency, but it’s Christmas and she’s my family. Merry Christmas everyone.
Dog was hanging out in the front yard yesterday, watching me try to chip ice off the front steps all while dodging falling giant icicles. See other our maija POTDs here.
The Christmas spirit’s gettin’ all up on my gruff. Here, watch the tiny angels squeak.
(… from First Baptist of Arlington‘s pageant).
Around 9:30 in the morning, it’s impossible to find a bus leaving kenmore square. Impossible. That’s cool, we’ll wait in the snow for 40 minutes and watch the out of service buses go by. Also, a previous busline short, 66.
In honor of CNSMHB’s trip to Sudan via Kenya/Uganda, my dad and I (& others? you?) made small Kiva loans to Christine Chepkorir Sang (impolitically deemed ‘a hardworking old woman’). The banner below will take you to her business and others in the region. For more pictures from the trip check our newest hip tag, africa.
She’s been sick as a dog (sorry) for almost a week now, but tonight I guess she’s feeling better. This little montage was made (like these others) with Picasa.
Radiohead’s All I Need from In Rainbows serves as the audio track for some time-lapse footage of cranes I shot yesterday. This is one of my favorite songs off the album, I love the patient progression of the bass line.
Other random stuff is on my youtube & blip channels.
The blizzard gave me the afternoon off so Schnozzus Maximus and I hung out and got snowed on some.
Sprinting back and forth on a thick layer of sidewalk ice may seem fun at first, particularly that bit where you hit the end of the lead at max velocity, backflip and head off in a new random direction. You might be unaware of new consensus research showing that this behavior puts the health and welfare of bipeds tethered to you at substantial risk, particularly so when on sidewalks already littered with broken beer bottles, on hills or while navigating oncoming and uncaring MBTA buses. In the future please direct your excess energies towards mushing to Blanchards for whiskey survival flasks. Thanks, mgmt.
A birthday video. Likely of minimal interest to anyone outside my immediate family. A conceptual sequel to tiny big sisters.
