My XL2 is not gunkified

Once more? This will make six years straight for Team Echoplanar in the Boston 48 Hour Film Competition. But 2009 is special in that since I’m no longer in Boston it’ll be our first bicoastal production. Or, maybe we’ll make use of the aeroports between here and there I’ll come into town the morning of. I’m not sure if taking the red-eye is best use of available energy or if shooting in both locations then remote editing is the way to go. We’ve got a month or so to decide.

Congratulations!

Your team, “ECHOPLANAR“, is officially registered for the Boston 48 Hour Film Project scheduled to begin May 1, 2009.

So there it is. Additonally, I believe we’ve opted to be in the PG-13 category this time round so keep your HIGHLY PERVY suggestions for next year, Palo Alto residents.

Typical bridge shot

A) It’s a long way off yet.
B) There’s a good chance repetitive stress injury or the junk floating around in my ankle will cut me down between now and then.
C) Even if we make it til July, my time’s going to be spectacularly slow.
D) That said, it’s so good to have something to look forward to.
E) I cannot believe my bib number is today’s date in DDMMYY format.

Why I couldn’t work for the State Department

So the most interesting thing I learned tonight was the concept of BATNA (best alternative to a negotiated agreement). The basic idea is if one’s negotiating for something (a job, a spouse, a multilateral trade agreement) then the points being negotiated for must be better than whatever the case will be if one walks away from a negotiation. So if you’ve got more than one potential job offeres lined up you can decide to play hardball with one, as you have a strong BATNA in your back pocket.

What I’m curious about is what role apathy plays in my own personal BATNA calculation. If I legitimately don’t care about the specifics of my career trajectory and am more or less satisfied with the outwardly retarded social status quo we rock in these parts, isn’t my apathy towards improving certain perceived problems functioning like an untrumpable BATNA? Or is that just a gross oversimplification from the fatigued parts of my brain? I’ll sort it out tomorrow.

Gusting

You would not believe how hard it’s blowing outside. A good night to be safely inside. When I shut the windows they bang so hard in their frames I’m afraid they’ll break. When I open them the wind just howls. I’m just sitting here watching the curtains fly.
