The 48 Hour Film Project Boston starts tonight at 7pm. This will mark the 7th consecutive year some variant of Team Echoplanar has entered this competition. Our earliest film predates the existence of youtube, and those first three are possibly lost for all time (a case could be made* that this is best for all those involved).

2004: Aiden & Aoife
2005: Kombat Kitchen
2006: Jelly and Creme
2007: This Is Knot Love
2008: It’s OK to be Afraid
2009: The Most Dangerous Games

So that brings us to 2010. Right now everything is tabula rasa but we should have a pretty idea of what’s what in twelve hours or so. If you have ideas about locations or animatronic props, this would be a good time to stand up & be counted.

*But not by me! If I find ‘em I’m gonna spread ‘em to the winds!

The hole (I hate)

The hole (I hate)

A sad but realistic mileage sunday today – a fat zero miles this week. I’ve got two braces for it now though, and things seem to be improving. But tomorrow is the day I’m planning to treadmill test and hopefully will be able to decide if I have to withdraw from Ragnar.

In better news, LZ and I got to kick around both at Walden and the Public Garden this weekend.

How to make yourself dizzy on a broken ankle

Sox & likes

Storm clearing

To preface: it’s still early. But as of this morning the Red Sox are behind both the Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals in terms of winning percentage. While this may make some turncoats happy, it does not make me.

I'm going to assume this is an attempt at irony.

But regardless, a great ticket at no cost to myself makes for a reasonably pleasant evening, even if the bats didn’t show up and we had some fielding issues (it should not be possible to bunt yourself to third). Buchholz pitched great! The game itself was even better in that the 70% chance of thunderstorms proved to be an empty threat as they moved off to the south.

Unrelatedly – I’m testing out the new Facebook like button on the photoblog. I’m not sure if this is going to stay up or not, but am curious what people think about it. We had been using WP Likes but that plugin is frustrating in that you can’t tell who favorited something. The new facebook button (courtesy of ajb{log} works pretty well, though I’m not particularly pleased that it shows both first and last names on the posts. Facebook may support full non-anonymity but I don’t think the rest of us are quite there yet.

Mega get to work FAIL

Mega get to work FAIL

I had intended to go to work this morning but my bus wasn’t able to cross the race course in Coolidge Corner and the next think I knew I found myself down by the Prudential watching the elite men and women. The best thing I learned today is that the Robert K. Cheruiyot who won is not the same person as four-time champion Robert K. Cheruiyot.

Anyway, some of my photos of the race got used here, possibly interesting, or possibly I waived my creative commons rights for no real reason.

On to the inevitable accountability. I ripped something in my right ankle last Wednesday, putting my entire Ragnar master plan in a moderate amount of jeopardy. I’m going to give it another week before I try to run on it. Cheers teammates!

Shades

I was for real in total seriousness trying to stay focused in lab meeting this afternoon. But the lights on the conference room table were mesmerizing to the point of distraction. I have the attention span of a moth. As previously

Revel in my syrup collection!

Syrups

I went up to Vermont this weekend (forgoing both my Saturday and Sunday runs), so pre-emptively, the miles below are mega-suckage.

Things I learned up on the farm:

1) Maple syrupin’ season is over for the year. You’re all too late.
2) Wide angle lenses (#4, check!) rock my socks. Particularly useful for covered bridges.
3) NH is considerably less attractive than VT.
4) Hungarians get really excited about Tokaji.
5) There is a limit to the amount of sharpness I want in my cheddar cheese. The 8-year “rat trap” sample? Too strong.
6) I’m not embarrassed to admit I drink my tea from a dainty cup.
7) Pygmy goats are less evil than the normal sized buggers.
8) Maija may very possibly (and lamentably) have it in for my parents.

Duke, fluke

Well good for them, I guess.

More importantly, Hondo & spawn‘s combined bracket somehow, miraculously, wins our pool, despite her failing to even to properly fill the form out leaving her with the ever popular (No Pick) to win it all. The outcome really didn’t depend on tonight’s final – nobody in the pool had Duke or Butler winning the dang thing so the die was cast when Michigan State and West Virginia lost Saturday. If both those semi-finals had gone the other way maija would have won with the random button and I would have come in second by one point. DARNMGLLE. Anyway, cheers to our winners (and their highly prescient blue eyes for blue devils POTD).

Gimp status update

Choco me

My ankle isn’t working right. There’s a sharp pain on flexing my foot upward, quite noticeable when doing crazy out-there stuff like standing up from a chair, walking down stairs and trying to stand upright on the bus. So I took Sunday off to eat chocolate eggs. WEEKLY TRAINING GOAL FAIL. WEEKLY CHOCO QUOTA EXCEEDED.

Maija flyby

After yesterday’s fun little april fools (which suckered a surprising number of people on facebook), I started feeling a little sad about how excited I felt about this hypothetical non-existent puppy when my real critter was lonesome at home all day. So here’s a drivable wall of her photos, courtesy of cool iris. Hiya world’s cutest husky! You are so not being replaced!! Drag the little slider at the bottom to the right to go zooming along…
