A proposal has been made that a small group of former lightweights should attempt to erg 1,000,000 meters (collectively) over the next 20 weeks. This was not my idea but it’s an interesting concept (II – ha). For the non-metric, that’s 621 miles, roughly the distance from here to Portland Oregon. Unfortunately for me the timeframe overlaps with the next ten weeks of cartilage destruction as well as attempt #2 at 100 pushups. Any other numeric athletiscisms to pile on? Go for the world record for squat thrusts on an elephant? Making a play for the World Moustache Championship? Counting consecutive hacks prior to self-immolation?
So yeah, erging. It’s been a while. I’m not quite sure what to think.

I’m in! I plan to erg this summer anyway. My resume includes a shameful 2k time at the CRASH-B’s in February, and a very painful 100k meters rowed between Thanksgiving and Christmas (a “challenge” from Concept2 through their website). How do I sign up for your team, through Concept2’s site? I already have an online logbook there.
By the way, I just realized that this may be something that your team is doing and you may not want any more members…oops. By “I’m in!” I mean “can I join your team.”

Your like a godsend. Nan needs as much help as he can get so you’ll take some pressure off him. With 3 people it amounts to 16,700 a week. easily a combination of 3 20 min pieces with a 2k thrown in for fun, or maybe a 40 min piece + 20 min piece + 2k. Personally i think we should do it as 500 meter sprints. Of course i say all that without having pulled a stroke yet myself and from the confines of my air conditioned office while reclining in my chair. Ah the dreams of a former lightweight.
I think the 12,500 per week goal for four people is a much more satisfying round number than 16,666&2/3rds meters for three. Jared – I’ll send you a link to our spreadsheet log. The only rule of million meters club is mocking members of million meter club is highly encouraged as long as it’s not me.
Done and done. My first erg is tomorrow. So what is the official end date of this challenge? Can I ask why the choice of a million meters in 20 weeks?
I don’t know who picked that timeline but I do know my schedule says I’ve got 32 miles to run before the weekend’s up so the erg is being purposefully ignored for now. MV’s going to have to pick up my slack with a couple dozen 10Ks.
