What’s that in cat years?

Rocco

Happy 07-08-09! Sequential dates are fun in general, and one might presume hitting a major decade-type birthday on such a day would make you lucky twice-over. Just beware of trashcans lest the good timez come to an end with the guest of honor waking up tomorrow on a garbage scow…

King Me

oh baby
It’s still a few days til Fat Tuesday but I’m getting ready for attempt to make a King Cake for my sister‘s birthday. It’d be a lie to say I wasn’t a little nervous about this, fortunately CNSMHB are going to come help out. A king cake is a traditional New Orleans cake celebrating both sugary food coloring and consumption of tiny plastic baby Jesii.

As is my wont, preliminary visual research design was done on flickr. Surprisingly accurate and yet unverifiable assessments of a range of two-dimensional king cakes long eaten have led to the conclusion that the more complicated cakes (ie, saraide’s braided cake here on the right) are tastier than standard boring round cakes.

Preparing to pull off a novel (to me) cake is a little intimidating, so I reach zen by contemplating the giants of past cake success. Jenni is still idolized (in some circles) for her bowling ball cake. Allison earned massive peanut butter props with her giant hamburger cake. SJH was so successful when we deconstructed her lime cake that as of it’s now it’s the #10 google result. This Texas Longhorns beer cooler cake pays homage to great moments in tailgating. Actually looking at all these is making me more rather than less concerned. One cannot hope to join the pantheon of such greats.

Deconstructing Dinner: Dali’s Lime Cake

Just a little late, Lee’s birthday cake gets deconstructed post Bangin’ Boca Bar Birthday Bash. In today’s small world coincidence, our co-chef for the evening Lisa is Ahree Lee’s sister-in-law – her brother is Nathan Melsted.

Thirty-seven and three

A birthday video. Likely of minimal interest to anyone outside my immediate family. A conceptual sequel to tiny big sisters.

Deconstructing Dinner: Player Pickle Edition

It’s more of a Deconstructing Dessert really, but has a multitude of cameos to make up for the grammatical inaccuracy. Special thanks to assistant camerapersons Catie & Annie and icers Ev & Polly. And of course AS on giant hamburger construction.

Happy Birthday

to AZ.
