Funny or Die? Unclear.

ron burgundy and hapless victim

I’m trying to decide if it was worth standing in the rain an hour and a half to see the Funny or Die comedy tour tonight at Conte Forum. (Thanks security lady for protecting Will against the array of terrorist tools I tried to smuggle in. A mini-tripod?! Back of the line!) Demetri Martin is pretty freaking funny, Zach Galifianakis, vulgar, middle-schoolish & repetitive, actively not so much. Nick Swardson is great on Reno 911 and wasn’t so bad but an hour later it’s hard to remember the specifics of any of his material. Will Ferrell is simply a walking commercial for himself, his new movie, his old movies, etc etc etc. Arguably the funniest part of the night was seeing Ferrell’s police escort roll through a red light at Chestnut Hill and Beacon after the show.

Eagles Jayhawked

January 6th, 2008 - nathanael · 3 Comments

Judging from fan apparel and a half empty student section the Jayhawk to Eagle ratio at Conte Forum for the Kansas/Boston College game was about 50/50. Tyrese Rice held the game close for about ten minutes before the Jayhawks (particularly an emotional Darnell Jackson) blew it open near the end of the first half. After that we were pretty much cheering for breakaway dunks. In the end the Jayhawks won 85-60, moved to 14-0, and proved they’re not just a football school (mmm, yeah). Next they’ll head on towards the Big 12 conference schedule. All in all a pretty good weekend for the Boston-based Kansas expat community. Here’s a bit of the view from section MM row 16.

Orangey Goodness

Orangey goodness is not just for Juliuses (Julii?) anymore. Congrats to the Kansas Jayhawks, 2008 Orange Bowl champs. Rock Friggin Chalk. NP reminded me that he scored tickets for us to see KU whomp BC this weekend, should be great.

Matt Ryan to Brandon Robinson

Super Fans

BC vs Army was pretty good game, if you like blowouts. It’s hard to cheer against Army when there’s a group of their fans sitting directly in front of you wearing picture buttons of their dead soldier son. Also it was clear pretty early on that they had no chance whatsoever.

I took this video clip from the friggin tip-top (row 24 of the top stadium bleachers) at 10x with my Canon TX1. The zoom on this camera is fantastically powerful, which almost makes up for it’s other flaws.

Reservoir

August 20th, 2007 - nathanael · 2 Comments

I’m ashamed that I’ve lived in my place for almost a year without realizing the quality of life improvement that can be derived from extending my westward loop a bit to circle the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. This is a gorgeous turn-around that lets you forget about the rats and drunks and type a-holes turning right on red into a full crosswalk. Currently I’m favoring this choice over going through BU and looping the Charles (though easier to set random lengths there). Other practical advantages to Chestnut Hill include the homestretch being mostly downhill, and avoiding the slumerlandic regions of lower Allston.
