I admit I fell asleep when the Longhorns were within three and woke up sometime in the middle of the late news. So it’s too bad that Alabama won but congrats to UT for at least making it to the big time again a short four years after winning it all. Despite who I was cheering for my favorite part of the game was the interception of Garrett Gilbert by Javier Arenas. Gilbert-Arenas? Get yer guns.

Anyway, at least your morbidly obese coach didn’t get fired for trying to shake terrified players until all the imaginary hidden pop-tarts fell from their pockets.

Cue the Chariots of Fire theme

CNSMHB are running the marathon today, though you already know this if you’ve seen the explosion of the marathon tag in the past few weeks. To my knowledge this is the first full marathon for Team HB to have run together – SMHB ran Boston last year and CNHB ran New York with me three (!?) years ago. Today, Christine is trackable here (if that doesn’t work just go to Athlete Tracking and enter her bib, 26096). I’ll update this post periodically today.

UPDATE 1: 10K down for CNHB! 9:42 splits, this is under the low end of her split range (10:00-12:00). She’s somewhere in Framingham now, I think there are fans to see her at mile 6 but I haven’t heard from them yet.

UPDATE 2: 15K down, which should put CNHB passing over the gorgeous Lake Cochicuate. SP just called – she and the old people were indeed at mile 6 but managed to miss everyone. I’m planning to leave Longwood here in a bit to walk up to mile 25 – our most aggressive estimates put SMHB there in 90 minutes.

UPDATE 3: CNHB just passed 25K, her split finally fell below 10:00. That’s expected, hopefully no IT band issues. I’m heading out to see what there is to see, updates mas tarde.

UPDATE 4: Finished! Saw them both! Accidentally stepped on little one’s foot when she came to say hi, SORRY!!

UPDATE 5: Photos! What probably my best Bevo ever and one each from Team HB.

Skyping the Rock Chalk

2008 Jayhawks at BC

I found myself without a way to watch the KU game tonight (particularly critical given it was against Texas). Typically I have to hope that a game like this is on one of the networks or suffer the arduous block long walk to The Sports Depot where the Kansas Alumni Association hangs out (with their alarmingly growing supply of babies). Or, best case scenario, head to Newton to see them play BC. Since ABC was showing Dance Wars: Bruno vs Carnie Wilson and the wind chill tonight is stupid cold I had given up on watching it (note, foreshadowing). Instead I had to get too clever by half and let the cruel mistress technology ‘solve’ all my problems. Instead of grading papers I stuttered through 45 minutes of what had to have been the choppiest stream of basketball ever. Thanks Logitech+Dell+ESPN+Skype+Ebay+lack of respect for some law I’m guessing+friends with cable!

PS. The Jayhawks friggin lost at the buzzer with a miss by Mario Chalmers.

PPS. JP was at the game, undoubtably cheering for the wrong team. I can never talk to her again.

PPPS. My personalized Triscuit commercial (a low fat Kraft ‘Food’ ‘Product’!) turned out to be the highlight of the night. You’re welcome Nabisco!!

Longhornz

Running any site aspiring towards MoOM-domhood requires a certain level of obsessiveness. My goal for the Daily Longhorn is to be the planet’s number one resource for aggregating the similarly obsessive branding machine that is the University of Texas and alumni diaspora. Despite what you might think this in not a conflict of interest with my continued desire for the Jayhawks to continue to whup them, year in, year out, in football, basketball and (it goes without saying) academics.
