Plains on Pipeline

Best with headphones and a non-rushed moment. Plains on Pipeline from Echoplanar. Another stellar argument for selling short the chaos of life and moving to Portland, ME. Or Oregon would presumably work too.

CBOP on Pipeline

Out of the void, some Concord Ballet from Echoplanar. Jeff has made available the full audio stream here.

Ancillary question: WTF happened to that Ponies set? It’s a good question, someone responsible will be looking into this.

Ancillary question #2: How many of these guys were out at ATP last weekend? If you weren’t, Tuesday’s BOC serves to recap.

Somewhat related observation: My Bloody Valentine is playing in SF next Tuesday.

Ponies on Pipeline

I was over at WMBR tonight to shoot what’ll likely be my last Pipeline for the foreseeable future. Pleasantly it was a worthwhile band, Ponies in the Surf (who I posted a couple of quick videos of from PA’s Lounge last winter). Our Pipeline stuff has recently dropped way off the map since I took a job at BU this past spring but it was affirming and comforting* somehow to go back in once more. I’ll put a couple new videos from the Ponies up here and on echoplanar in a few days but for now here’s a brief spin around the WMBR backroom.

*Apologies re: sentimentality. I’ve been told to stop but can’t help it.

Paper Thin Stages

Actually that bit I said yesterday about not having any new Pipeline footage wasn’t entirely true. Here’s Paper Thin Stages from my last Tuesday off. This is all part of echoplanar’s continuing series of local live music videos from WMBR’s Pipeline. Later tonight Baker will be on (88.1 locally or streaming).

Howarewe Hawaii

Here’s the last band from my Pipeline queue, from Providence, Howarewe Hawaii.

Coctopus

Ok, so had a bit of a break from the Pipeline project but am trying to make an effort to get caught back up. These guys are Coctopus from here in Boston, from a show last December 11th. I’m not entirely sure that this is a whole song, as each half of their set was structured to run together into several long movements of metal guitar virtuosity. Others from this set are up on Echoplanar, and, (as I like to triple-post) in the youtube-iest of formats on Pipeline as well.

Those who can, those who can’t…

BUSPH

A new uncool unkind unfun reality has crept into Allston life. Tuesday nights (aka the singularly decent non-work worknight of the week) this semester are otherwise logistically occupied and can’t be spent either on open screen or pipeline.

Golden Gate

And worse, friggin Ramsey has up and moved to the promised land of medical marijuana and tiger attacks leaving the rest of us here in the icebox of the country.

Have I spent years putting off the drudgery of maturity just to have this carefully constructed fiction come to this sad end? A new plan is needed. Wednesday night must somehow be redeemed. The floor is open to ideas.

The Self Righteous Brothers vs Magic People

A second track from two bands that will be on our upcoming WMBR compilation. We haven’t settled on exactly which tracks to include though it likely won’t be either of these – you could these guys quasify exclusives if they weren’t already on the youtube channel thing.

Let’s see, before I posted Lee Torsee from The Self Righteous Brothers – the new one is a little more mellow, Alan Watts.

Also, a second track from Magic People – I don’t have the slightest ideas what their songs are titled (About the Dutch?)- by a more literal band this one would be called either Bossman or Dudes on Parade. Magic People probably call it something completely different like This Cuckold Fortune Is Fraught With Peril.

Drug Rug

This is video from Drug Rug is the latest in our ongoing series of live sets from WMBR’s Pipeline. Jeff recently wrote a profile of these guys.

The Self Righteous Brothers: Lee Torsee

The latest from our series of shows from WMBR’s Pipeline!. These guys are The Self Righteous Brothers.

On a related note – WMBR’s fundraiser is going on this week. If you’re not familiar with WMBR, they play easily the best selection of music in Boston, both at 88.1 and online (streaming and archives). If you feel musically & fiscally inclined, please make a donation to support their efforts. All staff at WMBR are volunteers, all funds go towards equipment and upkeep. Picking Pipeline! in the drop down would further add to your karma.

Magic People

Magic People, another of our continuing series of Pipeline! shows on WMBR.

Winterpills at the MFA

kristin, mike

If you’ll forgive a bit of promotion – The Winterpills are playing tomorrow at the MFA, with Erin McKeown.  These guys are fantastic, please check this show out.  A while back we shot their live show at WMBR’s Pipeline (two of the videos can be found on Echoplanar), and it occurred to me as I saw this announcement that I promised to mail them the DVD of this some time ago yet completely forgot.  Tomorrow, everything gets mailed: a box of random crap to Kristin in Vanuatu (inset), tape of Escape From Wrentham to Jeff for the Best Of Open Screen coming September 6th, and a stack of DVDs to the Winterpills. If you want, you can listen to an audio stream of their full set on Pipeline. To the postal service!

Tiger See, Saw

More from an ongoing series of Pipeline! shoots at WMBR. These guys are Tiger Saw.

Winterpills, Broken Arm

This is Winterpills, part of our continuing series of Pipeline! shows on WMBR.

Pipeline: The Hotel Alexis

I’ve been told that this is not a sanctioned version of this song but a proof of concept piece disregarding sensitivities of frame dimensions, resolution and cover image. But I’m putting it up regardless – from the 4th in a continuing series of Pipeline! shoots from WMBR. I will probably take this down once the proper official version goes up tonight.

/*Not anymore*/ As an additional bonus (/curse) – with the new blip player I’ve used below if you play through to the end you get other mothra randomness. But at least there’s full-screen.

Big Blood

A second song from the third in a continuing series of Pipeline shows, this time featuring Big Blood.

I’m just back tonight from shooting the fourth installment of the series, featuring The Hotel Alexis which will likely be up by this weekend sometime. The interesting thing about the Pipeline gigs is I really for the most part can’t tell how well the set went until during the edit itself – we typically aren’t able to hear any of the vocals in real time.

Big Blood on WMBR’s Pipeline

Here’s one song from our latest in a continuing series of Pipeline shows, this time featuring Big Blood. I don’t know what the name of the song is, possibly Amnesia?

Pipeline Reports

The second in our occasional series of WMBR Pipeline bands is up. The band is Reports (from Somerville/Providence).

Here’s the first clip.

We’re shooting a third entry tonight (Big Blood) who will bring a considerably different vibe.

Pipeline on WMBR

Tulsa is the first band in what will hopefully be a series of Pipeline shoots at WMBR. I’ve got a few more songs from this set not yet in flash but they’ll be up soon.

UPDATE: Since I posted this, we’ve started using blip.tv to host the WMBR series.
